PHNOM PENH — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called on the public, particularly entrepreneurs and business owners in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, to actively share their views and recommendations to help the government develop more effective policies and practical solutions for strengthening the country's SME sector.

In a message posted on his official Facebook page on 19 July 2026, the Prime Minister stated: "I welcome the opinions and suggestions of all citizens in the spirit of 'Thinking Together, Acting Together' for the common benefit of our nation."

Hun Manet emphasized that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are a key driver of Cambodia's economic growth, employment creation, and national competitiveness. Recognizing their strategic importance, successive Royal Governments have introduced a series of policies and support measures to promote the development of the SME sector.

He noted that under the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly, the Royal Government has continued to implement additional initiatives aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship while facilitating the establishment and operation of SMEs. Despite the significant progress achieved, however, he acknowledged that the sector continues to face several challenges that require further policy attention and practical solutions.

The Prime Minister stressed that strengthening SMEs has become increasingly important as Cambodia seeks to expand domestic production and reduce dependence on imported goods.

To advance this objective, Hun Manet said he has assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, to lead the development of a package of urgent and necessary measures to address existing challenges and provide greater support for SMEs.

According to the Prime Minister, government policies are developed through careful study and extensive consultation with SME representatives, the private sector, and relevant ministries and institutions to ensure that they respond effectively to the realities facing businesses.

"In this spirit, I welcome opinions from citizens, especially those engaged in the SME sector, regarding the challenges they are facing and possible solutions," Hun Manet wrote.

He added that public feedback would serve as an important source of information for the government in designing more targeted and effective measures to help SMEs overcome obstacles, improve their competitiveness, and contribute more significantly to Cambodia's economic development.

The Prime Minister's appeal reflects the Royal Government's continued commitment to its governance principle of "Thinking Together, Acting Together," encouraging broader public participation in policymaking while fostering closer cooperation between the government and the private sector.

The initiative is expected to support the development of stronger and more resilient SMEs, which are widely regarded as the backbone of Cambodia's economy and play a vital role in creating jobs, increasing household incomes, promoting domestic production, and sustaining long-term economic growth.
