PHNOM PENH, A senior Cambodian military commander met with the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in northwestern Cambodia on Monday to discuss the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border and ongoing efforts to monitor the implementation of a ceasefire, Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence said.

According to a ministry spokesperson, Lieutenant General Pov Heng, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and Commander of Military Region 4, held talks with the ASEAN Observer Team–Cambodia (AOT-KH) at the Military Region 4 headquarters in Siem Reap province.

The ASEAN delegation was led by Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon, Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT) and the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché to Cambodia. The meeting was facilitated by Cambodia's Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG).

During the meeting, Pov Heng welcomed the ASEAN observer mission, currently led by the Philippines, and thanked the team for what he described as its continued commitment to promoting regional peace, stability and confidence-building through ASEAN mechanisms.

The Cambodian commander also briefed the delegation on what the ministry described as the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

In response, Dizon thanked Military Region 4 for its cooperation and logistical support, saying it had enabled the observer team to carry out field missions to monitor, verify and report on conditions along the Cambodia-Thailand border following the implementation of the ceasefire.

According to the ministry, Dizon reaffirmed the observer mission's commitment to conducting impartial observation, verification and reporting on the situation along the border.

The Ministry of National Defence said Cambodia continues to provide full support to the ASEAN Observer Team as part of efforts to help ensure implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, promote transparency, strengthen mutual confidence and protect civilian lives.

The ministry also said Cambodia welcomes friendly countries that wish to contribute observers or otherwise support regional peace efforts.

The Cambodian government and the Ministry of National Defence remain committed to implementing bilateral agreements with Thailand, including the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Statement on the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement dated Oct. 26, 2025, and other related agreements, according to the statement.

The ministry said implementation of those agreements is intended to help restore normalcy, reinforce peace and promote long-term stability along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

The Cambodian statement did not include any immediate response from Thai authorities regarding the meeting or the observer mission's activities. Reuters was not immediately able to obtain comment from Thai officials.
